The Needy Child

By Nancy Dearborn

The Needy Child“I wonder how you put up with me,” I find myself often saying to my heavenly Father.

For parents, raising some children is as easy as hiking on a level, paved path while taking care of other children is as difficult as climbing Mount Everest. Some children, for whatever reason, are born needier than others. Recently, I realized I am one of God’s most needy children, because I continually want to see His hand miraculously at work in my life every day, especially in my time, ministry, and finances.

Eight months ago, I was working seven days a week and longing for more time with God. He answered that prayer, because multiple health challenges forced me to resign from my full-time job. Now I have the time to spend at least an hour a day alone with God. But I am still needy, because I want to spend even more time with Him every day and keep searching for ways to simplify my life.

Since giving up my full-time job, I’ve also been able to volunteer in several ministries at my church. But I’m still needy, because I want to serve Him even more, decreasing so that He may increase.

In the area of finances, God has miraculously paid my bills for the past eight months. Above that, He has poured financial blessings in my lap. Still, I am needy, because I continue to look to Him to meet all my financial needs as He promised in Matthew 6:33: “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these tings will be given to you as well.”

Every morning I ask God for His best for my life. Even though I make plans for each day, I ask God to direct me and interrupt my schedule to do His work. Most days I cling to Him, hanging on for dear life while He carries me along the way.

I’m so glad God knew He would have needy children like me and made provision for us: “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matthew 6:8). “The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs” (Isaiah 58:11). “My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
