Managing Your Fears

By Stan Popovich

Managing Your FearsDealing with fear and anxiety can be very difficult. Depending on God’s help is the only way to permanently conquer your fears. Here are some suggestions for turning to God in the middle of your struggles.

Start with prayer. Make some time each day to spend quietly in God’s presence. Be honest about the way you feel and ask God for help. Read Scriptures and articles about trusting God, then apply these concepts to your life. Make it a habit to ask God for help overcoming your fears every day.

Keep your eyes open. Be aware of how God is working in your life to lessen your fears. Most of the time God works unexpectedly. The answers He provides might not be that obvious. Try not to get so distracted by your anxieties that you fail to see God’s hand at work in your life.

Be obedient. You must be sensitive to the answers God gives you. God may provide your answers in a way you aren’t expecting. Maybe they will involve the help of a trained counselor. However, God should remain at the center of your recovery.

Keep on praying. Talk to God as if you were talking to a friend. Read the Bible and pray hard. Be persistent and remain open to the direction God may provide to you in solving your problem. It’s not easy to overcome your fear, but God will help you if you only ask.
