This month, when you click on www.WTOnline.ag.org you are going to find many articles and helps to lead you in making smart entertainment choices. Making the right choices concerning your entertainment is not always easy.
If you are a believer, your choices must also be moral choices. When you can’t decide if it is right or wrong, ask yourself this question. How would I feel if Jesus were to physically sit with me and watch or listen to my choices? Would I feel pride or embarrassment at having Jesus see or listen to my CD, DVD, video tape, movie, video game, television program, or Internet selections?
Entertainment can educate, amuse, inspire and challenge. Movies, video games and music exist for every age group and interest, but not every choice is right. Learning to make the right choices for yourself and your family is very important. Especially in today’s world, where so much of what’s available is not only a bad choice, but can also be a dangerous choice.
Another question you can ask yourself is does my choice fit the pattern and/or requirements of Philippians 4:8 (NIV), “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Or Psalm 101:3 (NIV), “I will set before my eyes no vile thing.”
What we put into our minds determines what comes out in our words and actions. Paul tells us to program our minds with thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Do you have problems with impure thoughts and daydreams? Examine what you are putting into your mind through television, books, Internet, conversations, movies and magazines. Replace harmful input with wholesome material. Above all, read God’s Word and pray. Ask God to help you focus your mind on what is good and pure. It takes practice, but it can be done.
