This month at WTOnline we will be focusing on money matters. Money often comes between men and God. Someone has said that we can take two small ten-cent pieces—just two dimes—and shut out the view of a landscape. Go to the mountains and hold two coins closely in front of your eyes—the mountains are still there, but you cannot see them at all because a dime is shutting off the vision of each eye.
It doesn’t take large quantities of money to come between us and God; just a little, placed in the wrong position, will effectively obscure our view.
Many Americans have a possession obsession: laptop computers, digital TVs, cell phones, sports cars—all the “right” stuff. These items aren’t inherently bad, but they can easily become a source of false security, even pride.
The same danger exists with money. It’s easy to become obsessed with earning bonuses, enjoying profit sharing, and fattening a 401K account.
Life is a journey. We never know what’s around each curve. Jesus taught His followers to travel light, taking with them only what they would need for their journey. He reminded them to concentrate on God’s divine love. It provides a richness unmatched by any worldly possession. This love is so great that it makes everything else pale in comparison. Materialism, on the other hand, is excess baggage that in the end only serves to make the journey burdensome.
Ecclesiastes 5:10 states that whoever loves money never has money enough. This month we will deal with money matters. Visit often because some content changes weekly.
