Our theme for March at WTOnline is A Life of Worship. When I looked up the word worship, I saw amazing descriptive words like adoration, love, reverence, respect, and devotion. Not one word listed referred to singing.
For most Christians who attend church weekly the word worship brings to mind the 30 minutes of music in our Sunday services. Of course, we know that we can show adoration and love through our singing praises to God. But we also worship Him in many other ways.
I believe that the purest form of worship is obedience. True obedience is not forced—it is motivated by a heart of love. Actually, forced obedience is not obedience at all. Psalms 119:2 states, “Happy are those who follow his commands, who obey him with all their heart” (Today’s English Version).
It is dangerous to pretend to obey God when our hearts are far from Him, because God knows our intentions. Our actions must match our words. We must remember to accept responsibility for our wrongs, confess them, and ask God for forgiveness. It is our choice to obey or disobey God.
See Ten Ways to Worship Without Music by Tobin Perry in this month’s WTOnline. Darlene Zschech’s article on A Woman After God’s Heart will share how Hagar, Deborah, Mary the mother of Jesus, and other women worshipped God—each one differently. Each week different articles will be posted on A Life of Worship.
Visit us at least once a week for new content. Remember the very best proof of your love for your Lord is obedience—nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.
